On August 14, 2026, the AHC Event Centre came alive with music, art, cultural traditions, and plenty of shared joy as the AHC Community Development Unit gathered with five incredible community initiatives supported by our Seed Grant Funding Program from November 2025 to April 2026.
The celebration was an opportunity to recognize not just what these groups achieved, but how they grew side-by-side.
Over the past few weeks, grassroots leaders tackling real challenges like isolation and mental stress didn’t just work within their own circles—they reached out. They shared their skills, their time, and their hearts with one another, proving that when diverse communities collaborate, the ripple effects are immense.
Here are a few highlights from a truly unforgettable gathering attended by 80 people:
A Cultural Symphony
After six weeks of dedicated practice, late-night rehearsals, and a beautiful exchange of cultural traditions, the Lingzi Dance Group (Chinese Folk Dancers) and the WMEN Foundation (Nepalese Women) brought the magic of collaboration alive.
Dressed in their vibrant, traditional attire and stepping gracefully to each other’s native melodies, they presented a breathtaking collaborative folk dance to the audience. It was a masterclass in cross-cultural harmony, proving that art speaks a universal language when two communities come together with open hearts.
Music, Art, and Youth
ArtMuse Community Collective hosted an 8-week music and painting workshop for children aged 8 to 14 from the Mexican and Nepali communities.
At the celebration, their piano and violin performances left the room spellbound, while their displayed artwork stunningly fused contemporary techniques with traditional Nepali Mithila art.
Generous Spaces
None of this magic could have happened without the Nepalese Canadian Society of Edmonton (NECASE), who generously opened their doors to host both the art and dance practice sessions.
We are deeply grateful for their partnership and look forward to building more together.
Intentional Bonding
Recognizing how the pressures of immigrant life—working multiple jobs and odd hours—can strain family time, the Mujeres Omega Foundation stepped up to cater to the Hispanic community.
On this day, they opened their doors to all communities present in the audience. They organized a “Kids & Mom Bonding” craft workshop where 11 mothers and their children spent quality time together making custom tote bags, filling a vital need for connection in the immigrant community.
The Grand Finale
To top it all off, the Small Band for Seniors treated everyone to a 30-minute musical extravaganza that had the whole room energized.
Naturally, the celebration concluded around a bustling potluck table of cultural delicacies, which was happily emptied by the end of the afternoon.
The enthusiasm, openness, and warmth shown by everyone in the room reminded us of the incredible strength and diversity that lives right here in our neighbourhoods.
