Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) supports people new to Canada with adjusting to Canadian expectations, learning about programs and services, and accessing local resources. We now offer settlement services the following Alberta communities: Beaumont, Bonnyville, Camrose, Cold Lake, and Leduc. Our programs help Canadian newcomers with:
Orientation to Canadian Life
- Assistance with accessing government and community programs
- Referrals to community services including education, language learning, employment, and family support programs
- Workshops on Canadian culture, citizenship, job readiness, and community resources
- Support for families and students in adjusting to Canadian schools
Life Skills Development and Supports
- Casual English language learning and skills development opportunities
- Workshops on financial literacy, basic computer skills, employment standards, and more
- Child and youth personal development programs
- Access to AHC’s mental health supports
- Cross-cultural bridging guidance
- Personal goal setting through the development of a settlement plan
Community Connections
- Volunteer opportunities to give back to your community
- Child and youth programs (eg. Kids Club, summer programming)
- Field trips and local experiences
- Opportunities to meet other newcomers and established Canadians
