Activities/EventsAHCAHC Stories

Since early 2025, Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) has been delivering settlement services in Parkland County, supporting newcomers living in Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, and rural Parkland County. This Tri-Regions area west of Edmonton continues to experience steady population growth, increasing demand for accessible newcomer settlement supports and youth services.

AHC’s Small Centres team has been providing SWIS (Settlement Workers in Schools) programming and community-based settlement services to help newcomers navigate systems, access resources, and integrate into their new communities across the Edmonton region.

AHC’s newcomer settlement services in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Parkland County are now based out of Kickstand Spruce Grove, a newly launched integrated youth and community support hub.

Kickstand Spruce Grove is part of a provincial network of youth hubs designed to provide coordinated, barrier-free access to multiple services in one location. The Spruce Grove site includes:

  • youth mental health services
  • family medicine access
  • peer support programming
  • Indigenous-led services
  • newcomer settlement supports

This integrated approach improves access by bringing essential services together in one community-based space.

AHC Named Inaugural Service Partner

On April 22, AHC staff attended the official launch event for Kickstand Spruce Grove, where the organization was recognized as an inaugural service partner at the site. This partnership strengthens AHC’s role in delivering newcomer settlement services in Parkland County and enhances collaboration with other community and health service providers.

Through this partnership, AHC continues to deliver:

  • SWIS programming in local schools
  • newcomer settlement and integration support
  • community navigation and resource connections
  • support services for families and youth in the region

Growing Demand for Settlement Services in the Tri-Regions

As communities like Spruce Grove and Stony Plain continue to grow, so does the need for accessible newcomer services in Parkland County. The Tri-Regions are becoming an increasingly important settlement area for families and individuals relocating to the Edmonton region.

AHC’s presence at Kickstand Spruce Grove helps ensure newcomers can access support closer to where they live, reducing barriers and improving continuity of services.
