On August 27, 2026, Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) hosted its semi-annual Career Fair, bringing together more than 27 employer partners and over 250 job seekers for a day of connection, opportunity, and momentum. Early results speak for themselves: more than 70 clients have already been short-listed for second interviews, and several job seekers have received employment offers.
The event reinforced AHC’s role as a trusted bridge between local employers and a diverse, work-ready talent pool—while giving participants the tools, confidence, and contacts they need to move forward quickly.
What Job Seekers Gained
For many attendees, the fair was more than a chance to drop off résumés. It was a structured on-ramp to employment, with clear next steps and real support.
-
- Direct access to hiring decision-makers. Job seekers met face-to-face with recruiters and hiring managers from a wide range of industries, cutting through the noise of online applications.
- On-the-spot feedback. Many employers reviewed résumés live, offering immediate tips on formatting, keywords, and how to better align experience with specific roles.
- Clarity on in-demand roles. Conversations with employers helped participants understand which positions are hiring now, what skills are most valued, and how to position themselves for those opportunities.
- Confidence and interview practice. Repeated, low-stakes conversations throughout the day helped job seekers refine their “elevator pitch,” answer common screening questions, and walk into second interviews with greater confidence.
- A clear pathway forward. With over 70 clients already short-listed for second interviews, many attendees left the fair with concrete follow-ups scheduled—not just hope, but a plan.
For newcomers, youth, and individuals facing barriers to employment, this kind of supported, employer-connected event can be the difference between staying on the sidelines and stepping into stable, meaningful work.
Why Employer Partners Valued the Career Fair
Employers didn’t just show up—they engaged. Across the board, partner organizations reported a high-quality candidate experience and appreciated AHC’s role in pre-screening and preparing clients for the workplace.
-
- Access to pre-vetted, motivated talent. Many employers noted that AHC clients arrived ready to talk about their skills, availability, and career goals, making conversations efficient and productive.
- Diverse pipelines for hard-to-fill roles. From entry-level positions to more specialized opportunities, employers found candidates who matched their current hiring needs and culture.
- Streamlined hiring process. The fair allowed recruiters to conduct initial screenings in one location, shortening time-to-hire and reducing the administrative burden of sifting through online applications.
- Strong community partnership. Employers highlighted the value of working with an organization that understands local labour-market needs and can continue to support both the employee and employer after placement.
Overall, employer partners expressed enthusiasm about returning for future events and expanding their involvement—whether through on-site interviews, information sessions, or ongoing collaborations with AHC’s employment programs.
Early Outcomes and What’s Next
The numbers tell a compelling story:
-
- 27+ employer partners representing multiple sectors
- 250+ job seekers in attendance
- 70+ clients short-listed for second interviews
- Multiple job offers already extended within days of the event
Behind these figures are individual success stories: a newcomer landing their first Canadian job in their field, a youth participant securing a full-time role after months of searching, and long-term unemployed clients re-entering the workforce with renewed confidence.
AHC will continue to track placements and gather feedback from both employers and job seekers to refine future events. Plans are already underway to build on this momentum through targeted hiring events, sector-specific info sessions, and deeper partnerships with training providers and industry associations.
A Thank You to Our Community
This level of impact is only possible because of committed employer partners, dedicated staff and volunteers, and the courage and determination of the job seekers who walked through the door. To everyone who participated: thank you for helping turn a single day into lasting employment outcomes and stronger community connections.
