Sometimes the perfect recipe for success starts with passion, creativity, and determination.

For Joannie, that recipe led to the launch of Straight from the Hearth Inc., a home-based business specializing in custom-designed sugar cookies made with high-quality ingredients, including olive oil. From logo cookies and image cookies to interactive “Paint Your Own” creations for children, her products combine artistry, quality, and inclusivity in a way that brings joy to families and communities.

Each cookie reflects a thoughtful approach to design and detail, turning simple treats into personalized pieces that can celebrate events, share messages, or add a creative touch to special occasions.

Building the Business

Driven by her entrepreneurial vision, Joannie took important steps to turn her passion into a business. She successfully completed her business registration, obtained the necessary licensing, and completed food safety training to support the growth and sustainability of her company.

Through participating in EMPOWER (Exploring Meaningful Pathways and Opportunities for Women’s Economic Readiness), a program that supports women in rebuilding confidence and navigating new opportunities through coaching, workshops, and mentorship, and receiving guidance through Action for Healthy Communities (AHC)’s Entrepreneurship Support Program, Joannie strengthened her entrepreneurial confidence and built a stronger foundation for her business journey. The program provided support as she navigated early-stage business development and took practical steps toward launching her venture.

Growing Forward

Today, Joannie continues to grow her presence through social media and community engagement while sharing her creativity through cookies designed to celebrate meaningful moments. Her work continues to evolve as she builds her brand and connects with customers.

Joannie’s story is a reminder that passion, persistence, and support can turn an idea into something meaningful over time. With each step forward, she has continued to grow her skills, build her confidence, and develop a business that reflects her creativity and care for the people she serves.
