On December 13, 2026, Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) brought together community members, partners, and Mayor Andrew Knack, City Councillors Thu Parmar and Jon Morgan, and MLA David Shepherd for a lively Year-End Community Celebration in Edmonton. From the moment doors opened, the room was filled with conversation, music, and a shared sense of celebration.
Our very own AHC Board Chair Paulin Ismael, delivered opening remarks that reflected on the past year and recognized the collective efforts of staff, volunteers, partners, and community members who make AHC’s work possible.
A rich lineup of cultural performances kept the energy high throughout the program. Guests enjoyed an Indigenous Grass Dance by Ethan, a vibrant Nepali Folk Thali Dance, powerful cultural drumming by the Embuutu Dance Group, a lively Bollywood dance performance by the Archana Kumar Group, and a moving violin performance by Melissa Garcia. Each performance offered a meaningful glimpse into the diverse cultures that shape our community.
Mayor Knack, MLA David Shepherd (Edmonton Centre), and City Councillors Thu Parmar and Jon Morgan took the stage to welcome our guests and spoke about the importance of inclusive communities and the role organizations like AHC play in supporting newcomers and families.
Guests then had a chance to mingle over a community lunch prepared by Satay Madura, a family-own food truck which was supported by our own Entrepreneurship Supports Program. The afternoon continued with an energetic and hands-on interactive drumming experience led by Sangea Academy, inviting audience members to join in and celebrate rhythm, participation, and togetherness.
AHC extends sincere thanks to all performers, speakers, volunteers, and attendees who helped make this celebration a success. Events like this remind us of the power of community and the value of coming together to celebrate culture, connection, and shared purpose.
