We at Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) are excited to share that the Community Development Unit (CDU) successfully concluded the Fall Seed Grant Application Review Meeting on November 22. This event provided a platform for seven community groups and two youth-led initiatives to present their proposals for Seed Grant funding.
The review process was conducted by our dedicated Community Development Advisor Committee (CDAC). This committee is composed of passionate individuals who have either served on boards of community-based organizations or have founded such groups themselves. They bring a wealth of experience and commitment to empowering their communities and connecting grassroots organizations with invaluable resources.
This season, we welcomed three new members to the CDAC who will be volunteering for a term of two years. Their expertise will undoubtedly enrich our efforts in supporting local initiatives!
We are thrilled to announce that all nine groups received approval from the review team, with funding amounts ranging from $1,500 to $2,000. The projects presented were diverse and impactful, focusing on areas such as language and cultural connections, community wellness, employment readiness, and workshops in videography and photography to help community groups document their stories.
Congratulations to the following community groups
- Lumasha: Roots & Words – Connecting through Language & Culture
- Tajik Society of Alberta: Building Community – Community Wellness Program
- Senegalese Community of Edmonton Society: Sunu Atelier
- Action for Healthy Population Canada – Burkina Faso: Healthy Roots, Strong Women
- Lingzi Dance Group: Dance, Wellness & Community Connection

- Mi Gente Canada Foundation: Listos para Trabajar
- Unbreakable Sisterhood Sports: Access to inclusive and private sport space & awareness concerning cultural stigma (youth-led)
- Al-Wahda Soccer Team: Empowering Muslim women in sports (youth-led)
Both youth-led projects aim to empower Islamic women to pursue their passion for soccer and sports while remaining in a faith-based, safe environment, fostering inclusivity within the sports fraternity.
We wish all the funded groups much success in implementing their projects and commend them for their hard work and dedication to building stronger communities.
Your efforts are truly inspiring!
