Job Posting – EBG Project Coordinator (Empowering Black Girls)

Background

The Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) is a non-profit charitable organization working in Edmonton since 1995 to strengthen community capacity and build healthier and stronger communities. The AHC’s objective is to improve the lives of individuals and communities in which they live through the provision of public education and other capacity-building initiatives to enable them to enhance their own lives.

Job Summary

The Empowering Black Girls Project is to address the unique challenges faced by Black Canadian youth especially the girls who are 16 – 24 years old by developing leadership skills and civic engagement. The Project Coordinator leads and coordinates the implementation of project activities. This is an 18-month long project that will end in March 2021. The girls from target communities will be recruited to participate in skills development sessions, mentoring opportunities, community project and digital film making.

Responsibilities Include

  • Develop work plan and strategy to successfully complete the project within the deadline and also ensure the project objectives are met
  • Maintain project-related documentation including participant list, evaluation, project activities, reports
  • Recruit project staff, volunteers, mentors and provide training and orientation
  • Monitor the project expense and ensure to spend the budget according to the contribution agreement
  • Prepare reports to the stakeholders
  • Promote the project to various black communities in Edmonton and recruit the participants
  • Identify issues in the project and provide solutions
  • Supervise staff and volunteers and provide mentoring
  • Organize a wrap-up event at the end of the project
  • Outreach to partners and develop the relationship to collaborate the project activities
  • Make presentations to the stakeholders
  • Conduct an evaluation of the project
  • Other tasks assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Education, Psychology or related field
  • 2-3 years of leadership experience in non-profit organizations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites, Google Applications and databases
  • Class 5 Drivers License with ad clean drivers abstract and reliable vehicle
  • Ability to multitask
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Event planning experience
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Time management skills
  • Organization skills
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity
  • Insight and understanding to the challenges of female youth in the black community
  • Multilingualism is an asset
  • First Aid
  • Clear police information check and child intervention check

 

Working Conditions:

  • 37.5 hours weekly ( until March 2021)
  • Travel is required within Greater Edmonton Area
  • Expected to work flexible schedule to work evening and weekends
