Action for Healthy Communities Society of Edmonton (AHC) is a registered charity based in Edmonton. AHC has been working with individuals, families and groups to build their individual capacities and their communities. AHC works with all individuals and population groups including immigrants and refugees who face challenges to successfully integrate into society.

AHC is looking for volunteer Board Members who are driven by the belief that all individuals including newcomers, with their rich and diverse backgrounds, are critical to the economic growth of Canada. The Board of Directors works with the Executive Director to ensure the effective governance of the organization and meets 8 times a year. Occasionally, Board Members represent AHC by attending various activities or events in the communities.

The Board of Directors, being a policy board are responsible for effective governance, helps set the organization’s strategic goals, direction, limitations, and accountability. Other key areas of responsibility include: policy development; overseeing and monitoring of organizational financial operations; risk assessment; and management development. Board Members may also participate in committee work and are expected to volunteer 2 to 3 hours of their time a month.

Length of Term: 2 years extendable

We are looking for board members with experience in one or more of the following main areas:

  • Community engagement and leadership
  • Fundraising and philanthropy
  • Marketing, communications, or public relations
  • Entrepreneurship, social innovation

Qualifications:

No previous board experience is required however, it would be considered an asset.

A criminal background check would be required.
